Welcome on the home page of the IO project

INTRODUCTION
In this project, 2-D parallel optical inter- connections with on-chip access is developed, and a demonstrator system is realised. The principle is shown in the next figure: the different CMOS chips in the system are optically interconnected over the motherboard.

This web site gives an overview of the project and its results. New results and documents will be added on a regular base.

EXPLOITATION OPPORTUNITIES
You are looking for opto-electronic parts and components, or knowledge to build optical interconnects systems ? Take a look at this page.

An overview paper on the IO project can be downloaded at the publications page.

NEWS (since January 2004)
  • Download the presentation describing the status of the project at this link (2.5Mbyte).

  • Chip-to-chip optical link demonstration (aug 04):

Figure: chip-to-(same)-chip optical interconnects demonstration. The chip-to-chip demonstrator with optical pathway over backpanel is under development.

  • A public mailing list is set up open for everyone involved in the field of parallel optical interconnects in electronic systems. See this link.

  • A functional chip on PCB board (june 04):

Figure: the IO chip mounted on PCB. Inset is eye-diagram of modulated VCSEL (top) and output of receiver circuit (bottom).

  • Take a look at the results page, or use the menu at the left side to browse through this site.

  • A functional chip (feb 04):

Figure: light from the demonstrator chip: the 8x8 array of VCSELs, flip-chip mounted on the CMOS demonstrator chip, is able to send out the project name.

  • NEW! The IO project has organised a workshop on parallel optical interconnects, on February 20, 2004, in Paris, in the framework of the DATE conference.
You can find some of the presentations on-line at here.
